FMP: Evaluation

When I began to plan out how I wanted my animation to look, I firstly needed to constructively organise methods of how to set everything out. For this I needed to do some personal research. The personal research in which i carried out firstly started by me looking at contextual sources. Character design was very important for me as I needed this character be become the literal, and methodical ’embodiment’ of my work. I sketched several facial structures to help create peculiar characteristics for my character, however in the end i decided that I wanted it to be simple, and minimalist. This ended up in my character having no facial features at all. Afterwards I moved onto character shape customization using the element of simple 2D shapes such as; triangles, squares, and circles. The reason for this is because I wanting to begin to visualize my characters body type on paper, and so that I’ll be able to alter specific features so that I can compare them later on.

The name ‘Wanderer’ came from the concept of me wandering through different creative mediums. This was something which I tend to do because I enjoy the aspect of learning through exploration. However my methods of exploration was me following anything that caught my attention, and I have a strong desire to learn about new things. This caused me to ‘wander’ and ask a lot of questions. This is how where I got that name.

I used this idea of wandering, and exploration to create various environments to help create a story so I begun to draft different landscape ideas to help create a story with meaning. I wanted my animation to be riddled with symbols and motifs. This is something that I successfully achieved. The landscape that I created replicated harsh realities that I faced during my college experienced, and my character is walking through them. This is the process of progression in the face of adversity.

The programs that I used in this animation project was; Cinema 4D, Adobe Premiere Pro, two programs which I am very familiar with. The final program which I used was something new and that was Blender. This program is a 3D interactive software that has multiple features such as: animation, modelling, and can be used for concept art projects. The reason why I decided to use a new program is because I not only wanted to experience a new challenge, but also wanted to see how far I have grown as a creative student. This would then be and is my final testament to Kingston College.  I did this independently because I know that in University  I will not get a lot of help, and it is important is to learn by yourself because as a designer.

I believe that the project overall was a success, as I was able to visually communicate my ideas through my animation as I have had a positive response from people who have seen it. The lighting helped compliment the atmosphere. If I had to change one thing, and that would be the quality of the character movement in the animation, as the walk could have been more smoother to help compliment the animation as a whole. I believe that I have met my brief requirements and I am happy with my work
